This Custom Concert Ukulele was built on commission for a client who had a lot of design ideas. She ended up playing a large roll in wood selection and other decisions regarding some of the physical attributes.
The body was designed as a mini dreadnaught with a 14-fret neck joint. The top, back and sides are made from highly figured Bubinga, and the neck is Koa. Purple Heart wood makes up the rest of the instrument (fingerbaord, bridge, head plate, tail wedge, binding and heel cap) delivering a striking, yet soft aesthetic appeal.
The internal bracing is made from Port Orford Cedar, laid out in an asymmetrical pattern on the face. The side port was designed to make up for the missing surface area due to the special soundhole design.
Aubrey Jones, the owner and co-designer of this fine instrument says, “I want you to know that I absolutely love my uke. It is one of my favorite possessions.”
